In the garden

Tomatoes

when we came to check on our poor tomato plant (basically all thats left of the garden except for some brocoli.), i was happily surprised to see even more tomatoes and some even starting to turn yellow/orange.  it was an exciting time.

serenity

after going and applying at one of the many local call centers, i spent about an hour today in the campus gardens, just reading.  it was a wonderful (mostly) peaceful time.

Colorado Potato Beetle Larve

These little bugs like to eat potatoes (and tomato plants too, we've heard). we found an infestation of them in our garden, eating and demolishing our potatoes. we were most disappointed. upon further research, we've discovered that most pesticides don't work, and that the ones that work well are only available for commercial use. its been a big disapointment.

Growing things

We checked our garden today, and found that our lettuce is thriving.  i can't wait for it to get a bit bigger, so we can have some of our yummy home-grown lettuce. :)

Garden!!

We found our plot and went and planted. I think we pulled out more old dead corn (it used to be a corn field) and big ol'e rocks than I knew what to do with. we are both really super excited to have a garden planted and growing.

These were found in the garden. I don't know what kind they are. But they're pretty.

yes, this carrot really is as big around as my hand.  we also pulled out about 4 others, just as big.  i don't know how it happened.

We planted some peas tonight. It was good to get out and actually work in a garden.
